In between these sections is a support beam. We are not doing anything with the structural beam. Because of how high the room is from the ground level, a rail was originally installed in front of the slider per our states codes. The photos attached should clarify, to us it is a strange design. What would be preferable is a fixed window that is 3 feet high (which is the required height of the rail per state code). A wood fixture on top of those windows, then another set of windows on top of the wood that can be opened. We are trying to maximize the view of the lake. We are looking for something similar to this but not quite as modern. I have spoken to one representative from that company who stated that the specific system in that link is in Europe only, and that they do not have any other similar product. They suggested keeping a slider, and changing the wood rail for a glass rail, which again seems strange to me to have glass right next to each other like that.
