Critics had been sent advance screeners and had reviews written, ready to publish, only to be told to hold off until further notice. Last September, in the wake of Charlie Kirk’s assassination, Apple TV+ delayed the streaming premiere of its new limited series “The Savant,” starring Jessica Chastain. Chastain plays a top-secret undercover investigator known only as “The Savant,” who infiltrates online hate groups to take them down from the inside.“After careful consideration, we have made the decision to postpone “The Savant,” an Apple TV+ spokesperson said in a statement. “We appreciate your understanding and look forward to releasing the series at a future date.”While the show does explore politically motivated plots against specific targets—a thematic overlap with Kirk’s murder—the series bears no direct resemblance to Kirk’s assassination. I just didn’t understand the need to postpone. The show is a work of fiction developed over years. Delaying the premiere punished the cast, crew, and audience for a real-world event that the series had no connection to. Streaming platforms regularly release content that deals with violence, crime, or politics without canceling or delaying it. Apple’s move appeared to be more about optics than necessity.Regardless, some believed the show would never air, but now, not only is Chastain telling Variety that it is going to see the light of day, the outlet has also confirmed through its sources that a July premiere is now being eyed for “The Savant.”“Before it was like, ‘I don’t know if we’re going to see it,’ but now I can say, ‘We’re going to see it,’” Chastain tells Variety. The premiere will come ten months after the delay, which should have never happened. Critics had been sent advance screeners and had reviews written, ready to publish, only to be told to hold off until further notice. The delay reminded me of the days following the September 11 attacks, when Hollywood went into a collective freakout and began delaying—and, at times, erasing—imagery from upcoming films—remember “Glitter”? “Spider-Man” had its teaser trailer pulled because it showed the hero ensnaring the Twin Towers, and “Men in Black II” removed shots of the towers from its promotional material. Even “The Sum of All Fears” delayed its release and digitally altered imagery of nuclear explosions.
aapl
-3853952534492860428
Tariff refunds have started, but Apple won't see cash back for months
https://appleinsider.com/articles/26/04/20/tariff-refunds-have-started-but-apple-wont-see-cash-back-for-months?utm_source=rss
["aapl
The feds are gearing up to pay out refunds to businesses affected by the Trump administration's reciprocal tariffs, but Apple won't see one dime of the $3.2 billion it has already paid likely until July 2026.Trump launching his tariffs in April 2205On Monday, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced that it has begun developing a refund program to pay back some of the import duties imposed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA). According to the Competition Commission of India (CCI), Apple still hasn't submitted information about its financials and its views on an antitrust investigation that started in October 2024. The case revolves around the CCI accusing Apple of exploiting its dominant position with the App Store, arguing that developers are forced to use Apple's proprietary system for in-app purchases. Apple countered that Android was the more dominant smartphone operating system in India and that iPhones held a smaller market share in India. However, Apple has slowly been gaining momentum with its share of the Indian smartphone market, hitting nine percent in 2025, according to data from Counterpoint Research. Reuters reported that the latest CCI order said that Apple had plenty of opportunities to file objections or suggestions, but added that the company still hadn't submitted the "requisite financial information," which is used to determine the amount of a potential penalty. Apple argued that the penalties could be up to $38 billion and responded to the order by citing a separate case where the tech giant challenged the country's antitrust penalty law. It's not the first time Apple has butted heads with the Indian government, as it previously refused to pre-install a state-owned app called Sanchar Saathi onto its smartphones. The Indian government later decided to withdraw its mandate requiring smartphone makers to install the app, but it's much less willing to budge on this antitrust case. According to Reuters, the CCI offered Apple two more weeks to file any responses before the final hearing date next month. This article originally appeared on Engadget at
aapl
8767533535281081732
Apple Prepares Digital Car Key Support for Tata Vehicles in India
https://www.macobserver.com/news/apple-prepares-digital-car-key-support-for-tata-vehicles-in-india/?utm_source=macobserver&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=rss_everything
["aapl
Apple is getting ready to expand its digital car key system to drivers in India. Recent code findings reveal the company plans to integrate this handy feature with electric vehicles made by Tata Motors. According to a new report from MacRumors, backend data shows Tata is officially on the internal list of supported manufacturers. We do not know the Tata vehicle models yet. It’s worth mentioning that Apple Wallet Car Key expanded to Toyota, Rivian, and more brands earlier this month. Drivers can unlock their cars with a simple phone tap The digital key feature lives right inside the Wallet app. Once set up, a driver only needs to hold an iPhone or Apple Watch near the door handle of a compatible car. The system uses built-in hardware to verify the device and unlock the doors. You can choose to require a face scan for extra security. However, Apple also offers a quick mode that lets you open the door without looking at the screen. This makes jumping in and starting the car much faster. Apple originally announced its plans for this expansion during a software event last summer. During the presentation, it promised that thirteen new vehicle brands would adopt the technology soon. Tata appeared on that exact list alongside other big names like Mercedes and Volvo. Since Tata makes a massive amount of the personal electric vehicles on the road in India, this update will likely reach a large number of daily drivers. We expect more official details to drop when the software goes live. Apple is getting ready to expand its digital car key system to drivers in India. BNP Paribas pushed its Apple stock price target to $300 on April 17, and Bank of America followed with its own raise to $325, signaling a broadly more optimistic Apple stock forecast heading into what could be a defining quarter for AAPL. Analysts also expect an Apple buyback announcement alongside the results, and the Apple stock upgrade from BNP adds yet another reason investors are watching this one closely. The bank’s case rests on how the memory shortage shakes out across the smartphone space. Apple holds clear advantages over lower-end peers, and that gap looks wider as costs rise. During last quarter’s earnings call, CEO Tim Cook said Apple has “a range of options” when it comes to managing memory costs, stopping short of any detail on what those options actually are. Bank of America Lifts Apple Stock Price Target, Eyes April 30 Results Bank of America raised its Apple stock price target to $325 from $320, reiterating a Buy rating ahead of Apple earnings April 30. The firm projects roughly $113 billion in revenue and $2 in EPS for fiscal Q2 — both ahead of Street expectations of $109 billion and $1.93 per share. AAPL 6-month price chart showing Apple stock trading at $270.23, up 2.59%, as Wall Street raises the Apple stock price target ahead of April 30 earnings Source: Edgar Online The bank bumped iPhone shipment estimates for the March quarter up by 2 million units, to 60 million, and expects Services revenue to grow 14% year over year. FX tailwinds could contribute another 4% to revenue before hedges. The analysts called their overall setup expectation a “strong report and guide.” Apple Buyback Announcement Expected to Lift Sentiment Further Beyond the numbers, the Apple buyback announcement many analysts expect alongside the April 30 results adds another layer to the Apple stock price target case. The Apple stock forecast also draws support from Apple’s capital-light positioning in AI. The company spent just $12.7 billion on capex in fiscal 2025 — far below what Amazon ($200B), Alphabet ($185B), and Meta ($135B) each plan to deploy in 2026 alone. Services revenue hit an all-time record in Q1, and Apple now counts more than 2.5 billion active devices in its installed base. At a P/E of around 34, the current price target upgrades from multiple firms reflect a market that, at least right now, still sees that premium as justified. Quick Read Apple showed resilience amid CapEx headwinds and big-tech concerns, with 20% growth in China in Q1 2026 and new budget product lines like the MacBook Neo positioning it as a market share-taker in hardware and services. Apple is positioned to lead the Magnificent Seven back to new highs as it monetizes AI capabilities through Apple Intelligence features and Google Gemini integration, potentially catalyzing a device sales and services growth super-cycle. The analyst who called NVIDIA in 2010 just named his top 10 AI stocks. Get them here FREE. It was easy to give up on the Magnificent Seven group back in March when it seemed like stocks would fall into a bear market. Just over two weeks later, and we’re right back at fresh new highs in the S&P 500. If you sold the panic over the war in Iran, you might have missed the move. But even as markets blast off to new heights, the Mag Seven still hasn’t come all the way back. With the Roundhill Magnificent Seven ETF (MAGS) still off just under 4% from its peak, I do think that discount seekers might wish to give the seven names a second look now that the wind is at their back. As they emerge as leaders in the next AI upswing, the S&P might have even higher highs ahead as we enter the peak of the spring season. In any case, here are four reasons I like Apple right here and its chances of outpacing its seven peers. Apple stock has acted relatively steady through recent chaos Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) might not be the closest to making new highs. But the stock has been as solid as a rock amid the perfect storm of headwinds, which includes the Iran war, the big-tech CapEx shock, inflation hitting DRAM and NAND, and, of course, the potential for Anthropic to disrupt the world. While Apple might still be behind in AI, that’s actually become a good thing for the Cupertino-based giant of late. The drag of CapEx seems to be the headwind that bothered growth investors the most in recent months. In any case, Apple might soon find itself right in the middle of the pack in the AI race as big updates and its Gemini partnership nudge the firm several steps forward and perhaps ahead of other firms spending more, but not necessarily monetizing all that much. The China strength is real As the firm continues growing rapidly in China with an explosive 20% surge delivered in the first quarter of 2026, I think it’ll be harder to dismiss the global comeback as it looks to retain the crown of being the world’s number-one smartphone player. Apple is firmly a market share-taker again, and I think it’s still early days. In any case, China is a big growth story, which, if it goes right, could mean major upside revisions for Apple. The fact that Apple is going strong in a market where there’s no shortage of rivals, I think, speaks to the company’s ability to achieve perfection across hardware, software, and services. The value tailwind is underestimated To take it a step further, it seems like Apple has perfected value with its low-cost MacBook Neo and the iPhone 17e. Of course, it’s not all that exciting when you consider the fact that the Neo might have less powerful hardware that’s more typical of a smartphone than a Mac. That said, the pricing makes the MacBook Neo a disruptor in its own right. In the budget range of computers, it looks like the Mac is also a share-taker, and investors should be prepared for a surprise as the Mac shows that it’s back. What’s more, though, is the potential for the Neo to act as a gateway towards bringing more consumers within that Apple ecosystem. Maybe the cheap MacBook is the main initial draw that brings aboard a user who winds up buying an iPhone, an Apple Watch, and maybe even other devices while also staying subscribed to Apple One. The value tailwind has arrived, and investors shouldn’t underestimate its longer-term impact. The AI factor could be the biggest needle-mover of all As Apple proves it can monetize AI, I think the case for a super-cycle is there. And it’s probably not just about the iPhone, as Apple looks to convince consumers that Apple Intelligence is a reason to move ahead with an upgrade. What’s more, though, is that such consumers might opt for higher-tier (think Pro) devices to future-proof their devices for Apple’s future take on AI and agents. With the power of Google Gemini coming very soon to Apple’s AI experience, I think iOS 27 might be the catalyst that Apple investors have been waiting for. It may have taken a while, but what matters more is the standings in the AI race at the end of the year. And after all the catching up, I think it’s time to consider how such a tailwind will power not only device sales but services growth. The bottom line All considered, I’m really impressed with Apple across multiple fronts and think shares will be among the first to hit new highs, once the market realizes all the things that are going right. Even though shares have further to climb than some of its Mag Seven peers, I wouldn’t bet against Apple making the new high list sometime soon. Huawei, which has been the first mover in quite a few aspects, is now the first to launch the so-called wide-foldable space with its new Pura X Max. It has a book-style folding design, but in a wide form factor. This could be the trend for the year, as Samsung is reportedly working on a wider version of the Galaxy Z Fold 8. Then there’s Apple’s iPhone Ultra, which could also use a wider design. Huawei Pura X Max debuts officially, and packs a punch The launch of the Huawei Pura X Max comes hours after its live images surfaced online. It features a 5.4-inch cover screen and a 7.7-inch internal display. While the original Pura X has a 16:10 aspect ratio, the Pura X Max has a fairly square book-style foldable design. The inner screen uses a flexible OLED LTPO 2.0 panel with an adaptive 1-120Hz refresh rate, 1,440Hz high-frequency PWM dimming, and up to 240Hz touch sampling rate. The external screen also uses an LTPO 2.0 OLED screen with a 1440Hz high-frequency PWM dimming and up to 300Hz touch sampling rate. It’s also protected by second-gen Kunlun glass. Under the hood, the Pura X Max features the Kirin 9030 Pro chipset. This promises a 30% boost in performance over the Kirin 9020 chip in the Pura X. Quite durable, too The phone also gets a vapor chamber and a graphene sheet for heat dissipation during gaming and extensive multitasking. It boots HarmonyOS 6.1 out of the box. This is an independent system developed by Huawei. The foldable packs up to 16GB RAM and up to 1TB internal storage. In terms of durability, the Pura X Max features an aluminum alloy. Then there’s the IP58/IP59 ratings for protection against dust, submersion, and high-temperature water jets. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0 with BLE, GPS, and USB Type-C 3.1 Gen1. The Huawei Pura X Max supports a stylus, the M-Pen 3 Mini. It’s mini in size to match the new form factor. A versatile camera setup As for photography, the Huawei Pura X Max features a versatile setup. It has a 50MP main lens with a variable aperture (f/1.4-4.0) and OIS. It also offers a 12.5MP ultra-wide lens with an f/2.2 aperture and a 50MP periscope lens with an f/2.2 aperture and OIS. All three cameras use RYYB sensors with a yellow sub-pixel instead of green. It gets two 8MP cameras for selfies, one on each display. The cameras use Huawei’s in-house XMAGE image processing. The phone offers handy software features like AI Dynamic Photos, AI One-Click Filming, and AI Pose Recommendation, which the company already teased for the Huawei Pura 90 series. There’s a 5,300mAh battery with 66W fast charging over wire and 50W wireless charging. Huawei Pura X Max’s global launch details not available The Huawei Pura X Max’s price in China starts at CNY 10,999 (~$1,615) for the base 12GB + 256GB model; the 12GB + 512GB version costs CNY 11,999 (~$1,760); the 16GB + 512GB variant goes for CNY 12,999 (~$1,905); and lastly, the 16GB + 1TB version is priced at CNY 13,999 (~$2,055). The foldable arrives in multiple colors, whose translated names include Interstellar Blue, Olive Gold, Zero-Degree White, Vitality Orange, and The Night is Dark. It’s not clear whether the phone will launch in global markets at the moment. The post Apple (AAPL) Stock: Goldman Sachs Holds $330 Target Days Before Q2 Earnings appeared first on Blockonomi. Key Takeaways Goldman Sachs reaffirmed its Buy recommendation on Apple with a $330 price objective before the company’s April 30 quarterly results. Goldman analyst Michael Ng projects fiscal Q2 2026 earnings per share at $2.00, surpassing the Street consensus of $1.93. Year-to-date, AAPL shares have declined 4%, pressured by escalating DRAM costs driven by AI demand and supply constraints. The company secured 21% of worldwide smartphone shipments in Q1 2026 — marking its first-ever leadership position in an opening quarter. The upcoming WWDC 2026 conference (June 8–12) represents the next key catalyst, featuring a revamped Siri and potential iPhone Fold unveiling. As Apple prepares to unveil its quarterly financial performance on April 30, Goldman Sachs is doubling down on its optimistic outlook. The investment bank reaffirmed its Buy recommendation alongside a $330 price objective, with analyst Michael Ng arguing that the recent selloff presents a buying opportunity rather than signaling fundamental deterioration. Apple Inc., AAPL Shares of AAPL have retreated 4% since the start of the year, underperforming the S&P 500’s 2% advance during the identical timeframe. The primary headwind stems from escalating DRAM pricing, which has climbed sharply since autumn 2025 as artificial intelligence applications create unprecedented demand for memory semiconductors. Ng’s earnings projection for the fiscal second quarter reaches $2.00 per share, exceeding Wall Street’s consensus estimate of $1.93. His bullish stance rests on anticipated robust iPhone and Mac sales, margin performance above expectations, and beneficial foreign exchange dynamics that should collectively drive results past consensus figures. Apple’s gross profit margin stands at 47.3% across the trailing twelve-month period, demonstrating the company’s ability to maintain premium pricing even as input costs escalate. Management is simultaneously pursuing agreements to secure mobile DRAM inventory, a strategic initiative Goldman believes will safeguard both profitability and competitive position. Services Segment Maintains Momentum Within the Services division, Goldman anticipates 14% year-over-year revenue expansion, propelled by iCloud+, AppleCare+, and advertising revenue streams. App Store growth has demonstrated more moderate expansion — UBS estimated approximately 7% growth during the March quarter, with stagnant growth domestically — though the overall Services portfolio continues broadening. Bank of America independently increased its price objective on AAPL to $325, similarly pointing to robust iPhone performance and the likelihood of an earnings surprise. UBS maintained its Neutral stance with a $280 price target. Within the global smartphone landscape, Apple’s competitive standing appears robust. The technology giant claimed 21% of worldwide market share during Q1 2026 — representing the first occasion it has topped the industry during an opening quarter. iPhone 17 momentum and aggressive trade-in initiatives fueled the advancement, with particularly strong showings across China, India, and Japan. TSMC’s recent quarterly disclosure highlighted outperformance within premium smartphone segments, data Goldman referenced as corroborating its bullish Apple thesis. Market share expansion in China was additionally highlighted as an encouraging indicator. Developer Conference and Foldable Device on Horizon Beyond the immediate earnings event, market participants are focusing attention on WWDC 2026, slated for June 8–12. Apple is anticipated to introduce a reimagined, conversational Siri interface as part of its artificial intelligence strategy. Hardware speculation is simultaneously intensifying. Goldman projects the autumn 2026 iPhone portfolio will incorporate the iPhone Fold, a long-anticipated foldable device that could establish an entirely new product segment for the corporation. Cirrus Logic received designation as a collaborator in Apple’s American Manufacturing Program alongside GlobalFoundries. Stifel subsequently elevated its Cirrus Logic price objective to $175 while maintaining a Buy recommendation. Wall Street’s consensus rating on AAPL registers as a Moderate Buy, reflecting 16 Buy recommendations, 8 Hold ratings, and 1 Sell rating. The mean price objective of $304.85 suggests approximately 12.8% appreciation potential from present trading levels. Apple releases its financial results following market close on April 30. Citing a CCI order dated April 8, Reuters reported the regulator said that Apple has not shared its financial details or responded to the investigation findings since October 2024. Instead, the company pointed to a separate case filed by it in the Delhi High Court challenging India’s antitrust penalty rules. The standoff is linked to Apple’s earlier move in January this year, when it approached the Delhi HC to block the CCI from accessing its global financial records. The company argued that sharing such data would weaken its legal challenge against India’s new penalty framework. The regulator says it needs financial data to decide the size of any penalty. Apple has argued earlier that if global revenue is used, the fine could go up to $38 Bn. It continues to deny any wrongdoing. Notably, under India’s updated antitrust law, companies can be fined up to 10% of their average global turnover over three years, significantly raising Apple’s potential exposure. The CCI has given Apple two more weeks to respond but has also fixed a final hearing on May 21. The case began in 2021 after complaints from a non-profit group against Apple. Later, Match Group and several Indian startups also raised concerns. In 2024, the CCI’s investigation report found that Apple forced app developers to use its in-app payment system, thereby limiting competition. The watchdog said Apple’s App Store acts as an “unavoidable trading partner” for developers, leaving them with little choice but to accept its terms, including commissions of up to 30%. Apple denies these findings, saying it has a small presence in India, where Android dominates. The Apple smart glasses that have been reported are a departure from the spatial computing platform of the Apple Vision Pro. They won’t be a headset and they won’t offer AR or spatial computing. They aren’t going to be a computing device in any way. Instead, they will be glasses like those from Meta AI and other companies. They will be designed like typical eyeglasses, not a headset or goggles. They will have built-in cameras, speakers, and microphones for taking pictures and video, and to interact with the iPhone. These glasses are expected to function as an AI-powered wearable, potentially launching in 2027. This article will track the latest reports on the Apple smart glasses. Check this space often for the latest news before they are released. Apple smart glasses design: What will Apple smart glasses look like? Unlike the bulky Vision Pro, Apple’s smart glasses are expected to resemble a normal pair of eyewear. Apple is said to be prioritizing a lightweight, accessory-like design rather than the heavy, immersive approach of the Vision Pro. To appeal to a mainstream audience, the glasses are rumored to be significantly lighter and more affordable, positioned primarily as an iPhone companion. According to various reports, the glasses will look like traditional frames and will not adopt a headset-style design. To accommodate the necessary hardware, the frames may be slightly bulkier than standard glasses and will likely use plastic or similar lightweight materials. One potential frame style could be inspired by the glasses worn by Apple CEO Tim Cook. One of the frame style coule be modeled after a pair of Tim Cook’s glasses.Apple Frame styles in development In April 2026, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported that Apple has four frame styles in testing: A large rectangular frame, reminiscent of Ray-Ban Wayfarers Larger oval or circular frames A slimmer rectangular design, similar to the glasses worn by Apple Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook A smaller, more refined oval or circular option Apple is also experimenting with finishes such as black, light brown, and ocean blue. The frames are reportedly made from acetate, which Gurman describes as “more durable and luxurious than standard plastic.” Apple’s design approach Apple is developing the frames in-house rather than partnering with third-party brands, unlike Meta (Ray-Ban, Oakley) or Google (Warby Parker). The goal is to create a product that is instantly recognizable as an Apple device. Earlier reports suggest Apple is aiming for a higher level of build quality compared to competing smart glasses from Meta and Google. Apple smart glasses features: What will Apple smart glasses do? Apple’s smart glasses are expected to be a lightweight, AI-first accessory designed to complement the iPhone rather than replace it. Unlike the Vision Pro, which focuses on immersive spatial computing, these glasses will likely take a more subtle approach – similar to Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses – prioritizing everyday utility and privacy. The glasses are not expected to function as a standalone device. Instead, they will rely heavily on a paired iPhone via Bluetooth. How much functionality will be available without an iPhone remains unclear. The Apple smart glasses are reported to offer the following features: Camera for video/photos: Users will be able to capture photos and record video directly from the glasses. Visual Intelligence: The onboard camera will analyze objects and scenes in real time, enabling features like object recognition and contextual awareness. Speakers: Built-in speakers will deliver audio from the iPhone, including calls, music, podcasts, navigation directions, and alerts. Microphone: Used for phone calls, voice commands, and features like live translation. Advanced Siri integration: A more capable, AI-driven Siri is expected to power most interactions and tasks. Fixed heads up display: Likely limited to simple overlays such as notifications and turn-by-turn directions rather than full AR visuals. Privacy focus: Apple is expected to emphasize on-device processing and secure cloud infrastructure to minimize data collection. The built-in cameras are rumored to feature vertically oriented oval lenses with surrounding indicator lights, distinguishing them from the circular cameras used in Meta’s glasses. Role in Apple’s ecosystem One of the primary purposes of the smart glasses is to act as a wearable interface for Apple Intelligence. Much of their functionality will depend on Apple’s next-generation Siri, which is rumored to be previewed alongside broader AI upgrades at WWDC26. The Apple smart glasses could have health tracking features, but will not be as robust as an Apple Watch.Apple Advanced capabilities (rumored) The first generation will likely focus on audio features and basic visual overlays. Over time, Apple is expected to evolve the product into true augmented reality glasses capable of rendering 3D digital content seamlessly within the user’s physical environment. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is exploring more advanced features, including: Text recognition and digitization Context-aware reminders (e.g., prompting you to pick up an item you’re looking at in a store) More natural navigation guidance, with Siri referencing real-world landmarks instead of generic directions Health tracking has also been mentioned, though it’s expected to be less comprehensive than what’s offered by the Apple Watch. What specs are rumoured for the Apple smart glasses? According to Mark Gurman, the device will likely use a modified version of the Apple Watch S-series chip. Apple is reportedly developing custom chips for the glasses based on the Apple Watch S-series, modified for extreme power efficiency to manage camera controls and AI tasks. The glasses are expected to include open-ear speakers, a microphone for voice commands, and a built-in camera for capturing photos and video. Reports indicate that Apple may chose a display-less design for its first iteration, similar to the Meta Ray-Ban glasses. Will Apple smart glasses support prescription lenses and different sizes? The early reports for the Apple smart glasses have not stated if they can be outfitted with prescription lenses. Since other smart glasses support this, it seems likely that Apple will, too. Reports have also not stated how Apple will handle frame sizing for customers. As prescription glasses wearers know, some frame styles fit better than others. Also, some styles can’t be used with multifocal lenses. With the Apple Vision Pro, customers book demos at the Apple Store to get the experience of using one and also get fitted properly. Apple has this infrastructure in place and can use it with the new smart glasses. Apple smart glasses name: What will Apple’s glasses be called? No reports have been made regarding the name for the Apple smart glasses. Within Apple, the device has the code name of N50. We can speculate on what the naming system will be, based on recent history. Apple no longer gives products “i” names, so it’s unlikely that they will be called iGlasses (though that won’t stop the media and others from calling it that until the official name is released). “Apple” is in the company’s branding: Apple TV, Apple Vision Pro, Apple Business, Apple Music, Apple Podcasts, etc. So it seems like a viable possibility that this device will be called “Apple [something].” This leads to whether Apple uses some form of the term “glasses” in the name. It seems unlikely that Apple will use “smart glasses.” One interesting development to watch for is whether Apple decides to include the device in the Vision Pro lineup. If it does, then it will use some form of “Vision” in its name. If not, then Apple will not use “Vision” in the name in order to signify the separation. Apple smart glasses release date: When could Apple smart glasses be released? While Apple has made no announcements relating to smart glasses, it does seem that development work has been ongoing at the company for some time. Back in November 2024, Gurman reported that Apple had begun research into the smart glasses market by performing focus group discussions with Apple employees. Then, about a year later in October 2025, Gurman reported that Apple had decided to abandon its work on an Apple Vision Pro redesign to prioritize smart glasses. Several detailed roadmaps from industry analysts suggest a launch could occur between late 2026 and 2028. Late 2026 Launch: Back in 2025 Mark Gurman suggested that Apple has big plans to release smart glasses in the second half of 2026. This is looking less likely now. 2026 Preview with 2027 Launch: Apple might previewing this new category early, as it has done in the past: showing off the new glasses as early as 2026 as a preview, although the actual launch will be delayed until 2027. This was suggested by Gurman in December 2025. Launch in 2027: In February 2026, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported that Apple made “significant progress” in the development of the glasses, and it could be ready for production by the end of the year, with a public release in early 2027. Launch in 2028: Development delays relating to Apple’s AI could push the launch in to 2028. Apple smart glasses price: How much could Apple smart glasses cost? No reports have been made so far regarding the prices for the Apple smart glasses. For reference, here are the starting prices for the Meta AI glasses without prescription lenses and other lens options: Ray-Ban Wayfarer (Gen 1) and Skylar (Gen 1): $299 Ray-Ban Wayfarer (Gen 2), Skylar (Gen 2), and Headliner (Gen 2): $379 Ray-Ban Blayzer Optics (Gen 2) and Scriber Optics (Gen 2): $499 Oakley Meta HSTN: $399 Oakley Meta Vanguard: $499 Apple will want to be competitive wi
aapl
-6582304366573136533
Judge says White House can’t ‘strong-arm’ Apple into blocking ICE trackers
https://9to5mac.com/2026/04/20/judge-says-white-house-cant-strong-arm-apple-into-blocking-ice-trackers/
["aapl
A judge has ruled that the Trump administration should not have coerced Apple and Google into taking down apps which track the activity of ICE (US Immigration and Customs Enforcement). The staggering visuals from the Artemis II mission just keep coming. On Sunday, Commander Reid Wiseman shared an extraordinary video he shot on an iPhone 17 Pro Max from inside NASA's Orion spacecraft, and it's a stunner."Like watching sunset at the beach from the most foreign seat in the cosmos, I couldn’t resist a cell phone video of Earthset," Wiseman wrote in an X post. The moment when Earth appears to sink below the moon's horizon, Earthset was captured by the Artemis II crew from Orion on April 6, 2026, during the historic lunar flyby. This Tweet is currently unavailable. It might be loading or has been removed. "I could barely see the Moon through the docking hatch window but the iPhone was the perfect size to catch the view," Wiseman added. For this "uncropped, uncut" video, the commander used an iPhone 17 Pro Max, which has a 48 megapixel triple rear camera array with 8x optical-quality zoom (which Apple claims is "the longest iPhone Telephoto ever"). When Mashable's Stan Schroeder reviewed the iPhone 17 Pro Max, he praised the zoom as "not just a parlor trick" and recommended "you should use the zoom feature on this phone, and use it often." Turns out shooting Earthset from space was an optimal opportunity to put said zoom to the test, one few of us will ever get. SEE ALSO: This historic photo tells the Artemis II story in a single shot Latest model iPhones aren't the only gadgets the Artemis II team had onboard. The shutter sound you can hear in the video, Wiseman noted, is mission specialist Christina Koch snapping away with her Nikon D5 (7731.T) camera, a digital single-lens reflex (DSLR) model with a 400-millimetre lens, using three-shot bracketing (triggering rapid automatic shots to capture the same image multiple times). Two Nikon cameras (the D5 and a Z9), alongside four modified GoPros (reportedly Hero 11s), allowed the astronauts to document the visual delights of their mission.Koch's resulting Earthset images, just like Wiseman's video, are nothing short of marvellous — as NASA writes, "is reminiscent of the iconic Earthrise image taken by astronaut Bill Anders 58 years earlier as the Apollo 8 crew flew around the Moon." Earthset, captured Apr. 6, 2026, by Christina Koch. Reid said pilot Victor Glover "was in window 3 watching," with Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen "next to him." As Mashable space reporter Elisha Sauers explains, "They spent about seven hours rotating through observation shifts on the sixth day of the mission, swapping lenses, calling out features, and firing off photos as the spacecraft arced around the far side of the moon."The historic Artemis II mission has seen the internet fiercely glued to their social media feeds, with the crew beaming home content during the 10-day flight around the moon. Years later, it’s still unfixed. I’ve seen this movie before.A few years ago, I was part of a multi-vendor telecom project. My company owned the software. A third party owned the hardware and firmware. On paper, the security responsibilities were clear. In reality, nobody had checked.During a preliminary audit, we found it: a security control on the hardware side that both parties had assumed the other was handling. It wasn’t a minor gap. It was a complete blind spot — sitting at the exact boundary where our systems met theirs.Neither team had documented it. Neither team had flagged it. It had been open for 53 days.Getting it fixed required putting both parties in the same room. The conversation was contentious. Eventually, the third party accepted ownership and closed the gap. But here’s what stayed with me: the vulnerability didn’t exist because someone was incompetent. It existed because two organizations, each managing their own risk, had both assumed someone else was managing the boundary. When I watched Veritasium’s recent video demonstrating how $10,000 was drained from a locked iPhone using Apple Pay and a Visa card, I didn’t think about the technical exploit. I thought about that room. And I realized: Apple and Visa have never had that conversation. Or if they have, nobody blinked. What the Attack Actually DoesThe vulnerability affects iPhone users who have a Visa card configured in Apple Pay’s Express Transit Mode — the feature that lets you tap to pay at a subway barrier without unlocking your phone. Convenient. Intentional. And, as it turns out, exploitable.Researchers from the University of Birmingham and University of Surrey found that transit gates broadcast a unique code — called ‘Magic Bytes’ — to unlock Apple Pay for a contactless transaction. An attacker with a commercially available NFC device can replay those bytes to your iPhone, convincing it that it’s standing in front of a legitimate transit reader. At the same time, the attacker modifies the communication to an EMV payment terminal — tricking it into believing your iPhone has already authenticated the user. The result: a payment of any amount, from your locked phone, to an attacker-controlled terminal, with no Face ID, no Touch ID, no PIN.The contactless transaction limit — the one most people assume protects them — is bypassed entirely. The research demonstrated successful payments up to £1,000 in lab conditions. Veritasium’s demonstration went further. Both Apple and Visa were informed. Apple in October 2020. Visa in May 2021. Both acknowledged the severity. Neither has implemented a fix.“Our discussions with Apple and Visa revealed that when two industry parties each have partial blame, neither are willing to accept responsibility and implement a fix, leaving users vulnerable indefinitely.” — Dr. Andreea Radu, University of BirminghamWhat Most People Get WrongWhen this story circulates, the conversation almost always goes to the wrong place.First wrong assumption: this is an Apple problem. It isn’t — not entirely. The same attack doesn’t work with Mastercard on Apple Pay. It doesn’t work with Visa on Samsung Pay. The vulnerability lives at the intersection of Apple’s Express Transit implementation and Visa’s EMV transaction authorization logic. Neither party created it alone, and neither can fix it alone.Second wrong assumption: if it hasn’t happened in the wild, it’s not a real threat. This logic consistently underestimates how quickly academic proof-of-concept research gets operationalized once it’s public. The attack is now on YouTube, demonstrated at scale, with off-the-shelf hardware. The question isn’t whether someone will try it. The question is whether it has already been tried and simply not attributed.Third wrong assumption — and this is the one that concerns me most: the fix is technical. A patch, a protocol update, a firmware change. But the research team has been waiting years for that patch. The reason it hasn’t arrived isn’t engineering capacity. It’s accountability. The Real Problem: Nobody Owns the BoundaryIn more than a decade of cybersecurity work, I’ve observed a consistent pattern: single-vendor vulnerabilities get fixed in weeks. Cross-vendor vulnerabilities sit for quarters — sometimes indefinitely. It’s not because organizations don’t care. It’s because accountability frameworks — contracts, SLAs, security review processes — are almost never designed with the boundary in mind.I’ve sat in multiple vendor contract and SLA negotiations throughout my career. Security controls, data handling, and incident response timelines — all covered. Cross-boundary vulnerability ownership has never once appeared in the contract. Not once. The assumption is always that if a problem crosses systems, the two parties will figure it out. What actually happens is what you’re watching play out between Apple and Visa right now. Each party points at the other. Apple says Visa’s authorization logic is at fault. Visa notes that the same problem doesn’t exist with Visa on Samsung Pay, implying the issue is with Apple’s implementation. Both statements can be simultaneously true. Neither resolves the vulnerability. This is what a governance failure looks like from the inside. Not malice. Not incompetence. Just two organizations, each managing their own perimeter, with nobody chartered to manage the space between them.Single-vendor vulnerabilities get fixed in weeks. Cross-vendor vulnerabilities sit for quarters — or indefinitely. The difference isn’t engineering. It’s accountability. The Security-Usability Tradeoff Has a Price TagExpress Transit Mode exists for a good reason. Fumbling with Face ID at a busy subway barrier creates queues. It creates friction. The feature removes that friction deliberately, and for most users in most moments, the tradeoff is invisible. But every time we remove friction for the user, we create a new surface for the attacker. This isn’t a new observation — it’s one of the oldest tensions in security design. What’s new is that we increasingly build these tradeoffs into products jointly, across organizational boundaries, where no single party is accountable for the consequences. The researchers behind this work proposed a technical solution: an EMV relay-resistant protocol that would preserve the usability of Express Transit while closing the attack vector. It exists. It has been documented. It has not been implemented. The barrier isn’t technical. It’s that implementing it requires both Apple and Visa to agree, coordinate, and share the cost of a fix for a vulnerability that neither fully owns. In the absence of regulatory pressure or a high-profile incident, that conversation has no forcing function.Photo by Asael Peña on UnsplashWhat You Can Do Right NowBefore you think I’m an Android evangelist — I’m not. I use an iPhone. Which is exactly why this bothers me.While the governance conversation continues, here are four things worth acting on:Check your Apple Pay setup. If you have a Visa card configured in Express Transit Mode, disable it. You can still use Apple Pay for transit — just with authentication required. That one step closes this attack vector entirely.Change your procurement question. If your organization deploys systems that integrate with third-party hardware or platforms, start asking: “If a vulnerability lives at the boundary between your system and another vendor’s, who owns the fix?” The answer will tell you everything about how seriously they’ve thought about it.Stop using brand names as security proxies. “Apple” and “Visa” together still produced a multi-year unpatched vulnerability sitting in public view. Brand reputation is a signal, not a guarantee. Evaluate the architecture, not the logo.Recognize the dollar value of the tradeoff. The security-usability tradeoff isn’t abstract. Someone always pays it. In this case, that someone could be you, standing on a platform, with a phone in your pocket and no idea that a transaction just occurred. The Conversation That Needs to HappenIn my telecom project, we eventually got both parties in the room. It was uncomfortable. It took a forced escalation. But we closed the gap in 53 days.Apple and Visa have had years. The research team disclosed in 2020. The paper was presented at the IEEE Symposium on Security and Privacy in 2022. Veritasium put it on YouTube for millions of people to see. And the vulnerability remains open. The technical fix exists. What’s missing is the forcing function — someone, somewhere, with enough leverage to put both parties in the same room and make one of them blink. Until that happens, the boundary between Apple’s software and Visa’s authorization logic remains ungoverned. And ungoverned boundaries, in my experience, are where attackers live. This isn’t just an Apple Pay problem. It’s a preview of every complex, multi-vendor, convenience-first system we’re building right now. The payment ecosystem, the connected car, the smart building, the industrial IoT deployment — all of them have boundaries. Almost none of those boundaries have owners. We need to start building accountability for the space between systems. Not just the systems themselves. If this resonated, follow me on Medium for more practitioner-first writing on cybersecurity, AI, and the systems thinking that connects them. Despite its popularity, there's no official confirmation from Apple. The term 'iPhone Luna' has surged across social media, driven by highly stylised 'moon-inspired' smartphone concept renders that are being widely shared as if they were official Apple leaks. The viral trend has triggered confusion among users, with many asking whether the futuristic device is real, in development, or simply another example of AI-generated concepts being mistaken for genuine product announcements. At present, there is no official confirmation from Apple, and the circulating claims remain unverified. Viral 'iPhone Luna' Concept Gains Traction Online The 'iPhone Luna' refers to a series of fan-made and AI-generated concept designs depicting a futuristic iPhone with a moon-inspired aesthetic. The visuals typically show a sleek, ultra-thin device featuring a foldable display, a seamless body design, and a minimal interface that removes traditional buttons. Some versions of the concept also include glowing or reflective surfaces that are described online as 'moon-inspired', contributing to the name now trending across search platforms. However, there is no evidence that Apple has ever used or endorsed the 'iPhone Luna' branding. Tech analysts and digital media observers note that the images circulating online are most likely created using advanced 3D rendering tools or artificial intelligence image generators, rather than being leaked prototypes or official product designs. Why the 'iPhone Luna' Trend Is Spreading Rapidly The rapid rise of the 'iPhone Luna' trend appears to be linked to the increasing sophistication of AI-generated visuals and their viral reach on short-form video platforms. Clips showing the concept have been widely shared on TikTok, X and YouTube, often presented in formats that resemble official Apple launch videos. This presentation style has contributed to confusion, with some viewers interpreting the content as leaked information rather than speculative design work. The lack of immediate clarification from official sources has further fuelled engagement and online discussion. Another factor driving interest is the growing public curiosity around foldable smartphone technology. As several major manufacturers continue to explore flexible displays, audiences are increasingly receptive to futuristic smartphone concepts, even when they are not based on confirmed developments. No Verified Evidence of an Apple Product Despite the online attention, there is currently no verified evidence that an 'iPhone Luna' device exists or is in development. Apple has not announced the product, and it does not appear in any known supply chain reports, regulatory filings, or industry leaks associated with upcoming iPhone models. While Apple is widely reported to be researching foldable device technologies, there is no indication that any such project is linked to the 'iPhone Luna' name or the specific design circulating online. Industry analysts caution that viral concept names can often gain momentum independently of any real product roadmap, particularly when visuals are highly realistic and widely shared. AI-Generated Design Culture and Tech Confusion The spread of the 'iPhone Luna' concept highlights a broader trend in which AI-generated images are increasingly blurring the line between speculative design and perceived reality. As rendering tools become more advanced, concept devices can appear convincingly authentic to casual viewers. This has led to a rise in so-called 'fake leaks', where fictional products gain traction as trending topics before being clarified as unofficial. In the case of 'iPhone Luna', the combination of futuristic design elements and Apple branding aesthetics has contributed to its rapid spread across online platforms. Public Reaction and Ongoing Debate Online reaction to the 'iPhone Luna' concept has been mixed. Some users have praised the design for its futuristic appearance and imagination, while others have questioned its authenticity and highlighted the lack of credible sourcing behind the claims. The discussion has also sparked wider debate about how tech audiences interpret viral content, particularly when AI-generated visuals closely mimic real product marketing. As the trend continues to circulate, the 'iPhone Luna' remains a prominent example of how quickly speculative design can enter mainstream online conversation without any official backing from Apple.
aapl
["aapl
Looking for a watch with an Apple Watch-style design but different software? It’s not for typical users or even most power users, as the sheer number of ports, need for two Thunderbolt connections, and high price make it overkill unless you truly need that level of performance. In 2025 when iVanky launched its 23-port iVanky FusionDock Max 2 it threw down the gauntlet for the title of “Ultimate Mac Dock” to defending champion, the iconic 20-port CalDigit TS5 Plus. The TS5 Plus was (just) victorious on the absolute top-end—the TS5 Plus has 10GbE networking compared to the Max 2’s 2.5GbE and all its USB ports are 10Gbps. Only the FusionDock Max 2 could offer three native displays, without requiring extra software, and while the TS5 Plus has plenty of USB ports, the iVanky Max 2 offered a super abundance. iVanky has now returned with the FusionDock Ultra, which hosts 26 ports including 10GbE and 12 USB ports rated at 10Gbps in addition to the two upstream and four downstream 80Gbps Thunderbolt 5 ports. It can handle up to four 6K displays at 60Hz, and dual 8K/60Hz displays. CalDigit really has a fight on its hands. We’ll compare the two later in greater detail further down but first let’s look at everything the FusionDock Ultra offers to the Mac professional who demands the most and the best. Befitting its premium status (and price) the FusionDock Ultra is presented well in a rather lovely box.Simon Jary First, it must be noted how well iVanky packages its new top-end docking station. It looks great in its box before you even get your hands on it. How is the FusionDock Ultra different from other docks? The advantage this dock has over other Thunderbolt 5 docks is its dual Thunderbolt 5 chips, making it effectively two docks in one case—in essence, it’s two independent dock printed circuit board assemblies (PCBA) integrated together. The original FusionDock Max 1 has two Thunderbolt 4 chips, and the Max 2 combines a Thunderbolt 5 controller with an additional DP-Alt chip. These dual-chip docks can natively deliver up to four external displays—a feat that usually takes a docking station that requires third-party DisplayLink compression software to be installed on the Mac. The release of MacBooks with M5 Pro and M5 Max chips has changed the playing field. These top-end Macs are no longer limited to two external monitors over a single Thunderbolt cable, with the M5 Pro supporting up to three and the M5 Max up to four. This means that a dock such as CalDigit’s TS5 can run four displays when connected to one of those MacBooks. However, the fourth display must be daisy-chained off the third as the dock has only three downstream Thunderbolt 5 ports. The Ultra is free from this daisy-chaining requirement. Simon Jary The iVanky Ultra has four downstream Thunderbolt 5 ports, plus dedicated DisplayPort and HDMI ports, so can handle all four displays without needing to link the last to one of the other monitors. Using two upstream Thunderbolt connections also provides significantly more bandwidth, avoiding the bottlenecks that often occur with single-port docks. The downside is that you must use two of your Mac’s Thunderbolt ports to use the FusionDock Ultra. If only one cable is connected, some ports on the dock will not function. Simon Jary What ports and features do you actually get? We thought the mighty CalDigit TS5 Plus was remarkable packing 20 ports, including ten USB, then the FusionDock Max 2 fitted 23 ports into a similarly sized case. Now we’ve got a crazy 26 ports to play with. As there are so many ports, iVanky has clearly labelled all of them. Two upstream Thunderbolt 5 ports (80Gbps, 140W) Four downstream Thunderbolt 5 ports (80Gbps, 15W) One USB-C port (10Gbps, 45W) Seven USB-C ports (10Gbps, 7.5W) Four USB-A ports (10Gbps) One DisplayPort (2.1) One HDMI (2.0) Ethernet (10Gb) UHS-II SD card reader (312MBps) UHS-II microSD card reader (312MBps) One 3.5mm combo audio In/Out jack (front) One 3.5mm Audio Out audio jack (back) One 3.5mm Audio In audio jack (back) One optical audio (back) 240W power supply Most Thunderbolt docks have one upstream Thunderbolt port to connect to the computer and up to three downstream ports to attach monitors, storage drives and other high-bandwidth devices. With its dual-chip architecture, the FusionDock Ultra sports six Thunderbolt 5 ports: two upstream and four downstream. Simon Jary The two upstream connect to the Mac with the included dual-cable connectors. When connected to a MacBook (pictured above), the two connectors magnetically fit together in the correct position to neatly attach to the laptop’s side-by-side Thunderbolt ports. At the dock end the connectors are placed on top of each other in the dedicated upstream ports. The FusionDock Ultra also ships with a spare downstream Thunderbolt 5 cable. iVanky If you are using the dock with a desktop Mac such as a Mac mini or Mac Studio, the upstream cables can be separated to fit that computer’s port layout but you must still connect the dock to two Thunderbolt ports. The dock will work best with Macs that host Thunderbolt 5, with its 80Gbps data-transfer bandwidth that doubles that of 40Gbps Thunderbolt 4. With a feature called Bandwidth Boost, a Thunderbolt port can switch to a unidirectional 120Gbps for the most demanding video needs. If you need to connect high performance SSDs or RAID devices Thunderbolt 5 rewards you with a PCIe performance that is doubled (from Thunderbolt 4) to 64Gbps PCIe 4.0, and the dock supports (theoretical) transfer speeds up to 6,200MBps. The upstream PD 3.1 TB5 ports can supply up to 140W to the connected MacBook, which is powerful enough to fast-charge the top-end 16-inch model. Each of the downstream TB5 ports can deliver 15W. On the TS5 Plus CalDigit sacrificed the possibility for a third downstream Thunderbolt port for a top-end DisplayPort 2.1 video connection. iVanky’s FusionDock gives four downstream Thunderbolt 5 plus a DisplayPort 2.1 and HDMI 2.0 port. Native Thunderbolt and DisplayPort output supports up to 4K at 240Hz, which is not possible via an HDMI port. Not including the backwards-compatible Thunderbolt ports, the FusionDock Ultra carries a mind-boggling 12 plainer USB ports: all at 10Gbps. The Max 2 also has 12 USB but three at 5Gbps and another three at the weedy USB 2.0 speed of 480Mbps. Seven of these are USB-C (remember that that the three downstream Thunderbolt can also operate as Type C if you desire) and four are old-school USB-A. The Max 2 had those numbers the other way around, with seven USB-A, which is surely more legacy ports than anyone with a top-end system should need. Top marks to iVanky for shifting to more USB-C than USB-A. Four USB-A should be plenty for older flash drives and memory sticks, and even a wired keyboard and mouse for people who shun wireless input—maybe for those concerned about the potential instability of Bluetooth signal interference. Four extended displays are possible with most Thunderbolt 5 docks connected to a top-end M5 Max computer, but only the iVanky FusionDocks (Max 2 and Ultra) have enough video ports to handle them from the dock itself.iVanky How many displays can it really support (and on which Macs)? A key purpose of a docking station is to connect multiple external displays without using up all the MacBook’s own ports. The dual-chip FusionDock Ultra is the leader of the pack when it comes to natively supporting up to four displays, although the recent M5 Pro/Max advances in Apple’s processor design have blunted that advantage a little. To achieve native four-display support you need to use those two upstream ports. You can’t use the plain USB-C ports for connecting to external displays; for that purpose, you need to use the DisplayPort and/or HDMI ports or the Thunderbolt. Docks used to be limited by the macOS’s lack of support for something called Multi Stream Transport (MST), which limited Macs from being able to connect more than two external displays over a single cable. That’s one reason why Mac docks could be used for two monitors max. The iVanky FusionDock Max 2 got round this with its own dual-chip/two-upstream cable connection, and the Ultra follows suit. However, as mentioned earlier, Apple has revealed that its latest MacBooks with M5 Pro can now support three displays over one cable (it must be Thunderbolt 5), and with M5 Max up to four. The iVanky dock still offers up to four displays for users of M1//M2/M3/M4 Max-chip Mac, but if you have an M5 Max Mac you can now connect up to four displays from other Thunderbolt 5 docks, such as the CalDigit TS5, although the fourth will have to be daisy-chained from the third monitor due to lack of ports on the dock. The FusionDocks have no such problems with their four Thunderbolt ports and other dedicated video ports: it’s the only Thunderbol
aapl
7142161606977467713
Apple TV Sets Summer Release For Long-Delayed Series The Savant
https://www.macobserver.com/news/apple-tv-sets-summer-release-for-long-delayed-series-the-savant/?utm_source=macobserver&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=rss_everything
["aapl
Apple is finally bringing a long-delayed show to its streaming platform. Explore how Apple is setting new standards in foldable smartphone innovation. Apple's most anticipated folding iPhone has been the subject of a slew of exciting leaks and speculation for a while, but a new case leak provides a much sharper picture of the brand's creative direction. The main lesson is that the company isn't interested in making a brand-new type of device. Rather, they are concentrating on polishing the foldable experience until it's seamless. A Familiar Form With an Apple Twist According to recent information, the iPhone Fold is expected to adopt a book-style layout. While it shares some DNA with devices like the Galaxy Z Fold, it carries a distinct Apple flair. Case images posted by leaker Majin Bu on X indicate a handset that hinges inward to reveal a tablet-sized internal screen, while still offering a smaller display on the front for everyday tasks. This hybrid design is clearly intended to combine the ease of an iPhone with the expansive workspace of an iPad. The first official foldable iPhone cases and it looks like we'll finally have MagSafe pic.twitter.com/HuuT3mUc6z— Majin (@MajinBuofficia) April 19, 2026 However, the real talking point is the phone's physical dimensions. Rather than following the tall and slender look typical of existing foldables, Apple is reportedly opting for a broader 'passport-style' frame. This wider shape is expected to offer a more comfortable and intuitive experience when using the device in its closed position. Record-Breaking Slimness and Premium Build Another major selling point is the device's remarkably slender frame. Early reports indicate that the handset could be a mere 4.5mm thick when opened, which would rank it among the thinnest folding devices ever created. Achieving such a slim profile involves certain compromises, yet it clearly signals where Apple's interests lie. Instead of stuffing the handset with every possible bell and whistle, the goal appears to be a mix of elegance, balanced proportions, and high-end finishes. This includes a rumoured titanium frame, designed to provide rugged strength without making the phone feel heavy. iPhone fold design final pic.twitter.com/Su57mqo0Vk— Majin (@MajinBuofficia) April 16, 2026 The back of the device also looks quite understated, featuring a two-lens camera system as opposed to the three-lens setups found on Pro models. This choice further implies that Apple is working within the physical limits of the slim chassis, choosing a sleek aesthetic over simply boasting about hardware specifications. Production Moulds Reveal Final Dimensions Earlier this month, a manufacturer in Turkey took to Instagram to share a short clip of what they claim is the production mould for the iPhone Fold. For those unfamiliar with the term, a mould is essentially the metal cast used by accessory designers to guarantee their cases align perfectly with the finished product. A post shared by instagram Apple keeps the exact measurements of its unreleased hardware under tight wraps, never sharing them with outside accessory makers. However, these businesses have developed their own clever tactics to secure precise specifications long before the official reveal. Looking at the mould, the iPhone Fold seems to match the footprint of an iPhone mini when folded, expanding to nearly the size of an iPad mini once opened. On the back, a pair of cameras is aligned vertically rather than diagonally. When seen from the edge, the device lacks a raised island, opting instead for a simple, protruding lens setup reminiscent of the iPhone 16 range. A circular marking is also visible on the rear, which strongly hints that MagSafe compatibility is included. A New Standard for Foldables At the very least, these glimpses suggest that Apple is taking a calculated path into the foldable market. The choice of a broader screen ratio, a remarkably slim body, and a tablet-sized internal display indicates a handset built for practical daily use rather than just for show. In truth, that could be the most significant takeaway; if these designs are accurate, Apple isn't joining the folding competition just to participate—it's arriving to set a new standard for the entire category.
aapl
-4831665946215534649
ITV’s ‘Believe Me’: Daniel Mays on the Toll of Playing the “Black Cab Rapist” and Writer Jeff Pope on Focusing on Victims Rather Than the Predator
https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/itv-drama-believe-me-daniel-mays-black-cab-rapist-1236566643/
["aapl
Mays shares what he "underestimated" about the role, while director Julia Ford discusses how the true-crime series focuses on the failures of London's Metropolitan Police, aka Scotland Yard, as a "system."
aapl
["aapl
A recent leak raises questions about one of Apple’s most iconic charging features.
aapl
["aapl
Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro lineup, expected to debut in September 2026, is poised to redefine the premium smartphone market. Apple is working on a fix for a bug in iOS 26 that has caused some iPhone users to be permanently locked out of their devices. The issue arises from the removal of the caron character (?) from the iOS Czech keyboard in iOS 26, which was released in September 2025.Users who had set a custom alphanumeric passcode containing that character lost access to their devices after updating. How the iOS 26 Keyboard Bug Locked Users OutInstead of using a standard four-digit PIN, Byrne set a custom alphanumeric passcode that included the caron character available on the iPhone's Czech keyboard. When iOS 26 removed that character from the keyboard, it was no longer possible to enter it at the lock screen. This made the passcode impossible to type and the device impossible to unlock without a full restore. Doing a factory restore would erase all data on the device, including Byrne's photos and personal files, with no other backup available.Current Status of Apple’s FixByrne told The Register he had mixed feelings about the fix. "On one hand, it's impressive that they're working on a fix within nine days of the issue being reported. On the other, it's hard to believe that the breaking change was ever approved," he said, noting that the removal caused two identical characters to appear side by side on the lock screen keyboard, which he said should have been caught during review. Byrne also mentioned he plans to switch to Android regardless of whether the fix is implemented, citing camera quality as his main reason.Apple has not yet responded to press inquiries regarding the bug. The fix has not been assigned to a specific iOS 26 release. Users who set alphanumeric passcodes using characters from non-English keyboards and have not updated to iOS 26 should check that their passcodes can still be entered correctly before installing the update. When closed, the phone measures roughly 120 by 84 millimeters. And these fresh pictures seem to confirm the same. A visible MagSafe ring sits on the back of the cases. Majin noted this in the caption, saying, “it looks like we’ll finally have MagSafe.” Some commenters immediately asked whether the magnets are full MagSafe or just a basic charging ring. Others noted the obvious thing that most people will slap a case on anyway. The leak follows the dummy unit photos that surfaced earlier this month. Those showed no MagSafe ring on the bare device. Now the accessory images suggest Apple is adding the feature at the case level, at least for launch. So, as you can expect, plenty of people welcomed the MagSafe news after weeks of worry that the foldable might skip it. A smaller group called the overall look too rugged and not very Apple-like, with orange accents drawing side-eye in several replies. That said, as mentioned above, there will be cases without the accents too. iPhone fold pic.twitter.com/qyPejytD8F — Majin (@MajinBuofficia) April 19, 2026 And for those who missed the earlier photos of the dummy phone, you can check out these shots Majin posted: pic.twitter.com/VjjQPv2k4g — Majin (@MajinBuofficia) April 19, 2026 The device itself still draws the “baby fold” nickname because of its small closed size. Unfolded, it offers about a 7.8-inch inner screen, according to the earlier dummy measurements. Analysts expect 3 to 5 million units in the first year if Apple prices it between $2,000 and $2,500. The naming itself is still up in the air. In a recent video, YouTuber Jon Prosser of FPT claimed the device will probably launch as the iPhone Ultra, positioning it as the new premium flagship alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max series. Case leaks this specific usually mean the overseas supply chain is officially locking in final hardware details. Accessory makers need exact dimensions months in advance so they can manufacture inventory for launch day. We will probably see more brands quietly dropping their own case designs as production ramps up. For now potential buyers can at least rest easy knowing their current wallets and charging stands will probably work. The long-press menu gains two helpful buttons for quick fixes Right now, holding down on your screen brings up a small bubble in the top corner. It wants to improve battery life and make sure the software runs smoothly on older devices. The update will also introduce some bigger visual changes, like a new slider to adjust the transparency of the Liquid Glass interface. Users will get more control over how their screens look. A sudden rush of wide foldable phones from several Android brands signals a clear shift in consumer and industry preference. As detailed by Forbes, Apple is effectively standardizing a new widescreen foldable form factor, something earlier devices from Google, Microsoft, and Oppo couldn’t quite achieve on their own. For years, foldable phones, especially the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold series, largely stuck to a tall and narrow design. The rumored wider, shorter 4:3 aspect ratio is now becoming the industry standard. This design choice is meant to deliver a better video consumption experience, with a wider screen reducing letterboxing and allowing more of the display to be used for content. The timing is hard to ignore. Samsung has released seven generations of foldable phones, yet it is only now, in the same year the iPhone Fold is expected, that the company is switching up the design. Huawei was also quick to move, announcing its new Pura X Max, the company’s first widescreen foldable phone. Android rivals already have an edge Apple can’t easily close Samsung is set to release its Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide this summer, with a rumored 8.1-inch internal display and a 6.5-inch cover screen. Leaked CAD images show a completely revamped shape despite display sizes that aren’t drastically different from the Galaxy Z Fold 7’s. The Google Pixel 11 Pro is also expected to adopt a wider design, with the Motorola Razr Fold and Honor Magic V6 also launching this year. iPhone Fold faces production delays due to engineering challenges. @Apple may launch with limited supply, focusing on premium design and foldable innovation in 2026.@business
aapl
-1378581436629961352
Apple Testing Undo and Redo Buttons for iPhone Home Screen in iOS 27
https://www.iClarified.com/100595/apple-testing-undo-and-redo-buttons-for-iphone-home-screen-in-ios-27
["aapl
-4014813441992149792","-3068541735002391877
Apple is testing a change that could fix one of the more frustrating parts of customizing the iPhone and iPad. Are you eager for a MacBook Pro with touchscreen and OLED technology? Well, you might need to wait a few months longer. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple could delay the M6-powered MacBook Pro with an OLED display to 2007 due to a global shortage of memory components. MacBook Pro with OLED display & touchscreen delay: memory crisis hits Cupertino Not even Apple is safe from the effects of the current crisis involving RAM and SSD storage. This shortage has already pushed other industry leaders to adjust their pricing. Now, it seems that it will also impact the next-generation MacBook Pro. Originally, insiders expected the major redesign to debut in late 2026, likely during an October or November event. However, Gurman now suggests the launch has drifted toward the early part of 2027. This supply constraint isn’t exclusive to laptops, though. The upcoming Mac Studio update has also reportedly been pushed back for similar reasons. The potential delay isn’t a result of development hurdles. Apple’s software team is reportedly on track to finalize the necessary adjustments for macOS 27 by this fall. These updates include system-wide support for touchscreen functionality, such as dynamically enlarged buttons and contextual menu controls. The software will also integrate the Dynamic Island into the Mac interface for the first time. Essentially, the “brain” of the machine will be ready long before the physical components are available to assemble it. Potential MacBook Ultra moniker With such expected upgrades—OLED displays, touch capabilities, and the powerful new M6 Pro and M6 Max chips—rumors are swirling about how Apple will position this device. There is growing discussion about Apple potentially branding this model as a new high-end variant. Some sources speculate about the potential “MacBook Ultra” moniker. Apple could justify a higher price point while keeping existing M5 models on the market with a new, more premium tier above the current MacBook Pro. Apple’s foldable iPhone has been leaking in bits and pieces, but this latest case leak might be the clearest look yet at how the company is approaching design. And if there’s one takeaway, it’s this: Apple isn’t trying to reinvent the foldable… It’s trying to refine it. iPhone Fold case leak reveals a familiar yet refined design According to recent leaks, the iPhone Fold sticks to a book-style foldable design. It’s similar to devices like the Galaxy Z Fold, but with a very Apple-like twist. This dual-form factor is clearly aimed at blending iPhone portability with iPad-style usability. iPhone fold design final pic.twitter.com/Su57mqo0Vk— Majin (@MajinBuofficia) April 16, 2026 But what really stands out is the shape and proportions. Instead of the tall, narrow foldables we’ve seen so far, Apple is reportedly going for a wider, more “passport-like” design, which should feel more natural to use when closed. Thin, premium, and very Apple Another big design highlight is just how thin this thing could be. Leaks suggest the device might measure around 4.5mm when unfolded, making it one of the slimmest foldables yet. That thinness comes with trade-offs, but it also hints at Apple’s priorities. Instead of cramming in every feature, the focus seems to be on sleekness, symmetry, and premium materials, reportedly including a titanium chassis for durability without bulk. The rear design also appears fairly minimal, with a dual-camera setup instead of the triple-camera arrays we’re used to on Pro iPhones. That again suggests Apple is optimizing for design constraints rather than spec-sheet flexing. iPhone Fold CAD-based render AI Visualization If anything, these leaks show Apple taking a measured approach to foldables. The wider aspect ratio, ultra-thin profile, and tablet-like inner screen all point toward a device that’s less about novelty and more about usability. And honestly, that might be the bigger story. Because if this design holds up, Apple isn’t entering the foldable race to catch up — it’s entering to clean things up.
aapl
6381354440272985345
Apple Will Make You Wait To Upgrade To Its Redesigned M6 MacBook Pro Lineup, As DRAM & SSD Shortage Could Delay Launch To 2027
["aapl
The M5, M5 Pro, and M5 Max MacBook Pro models are going to stay relevant for a longer period, as the M6, M6 Pro, and M6 Max range that was slated to arrive in 2026 could be pushed back until 2027. India has reportedly abandoned plans to require smartphone makers to include the country’s biometric ID app on their devices. The move came in the face of opposition from companies such as Apple and Samsung, Reuters reported Friday (April 17). UIDAI (Unique Identity Authority of India), the government body that operates the Aadhaar app, had asked India’s IT ministry in January to convince the tech giants to preinstall the service. As Reuters noted, Aadhaar is a unique 12-digit identity number tied to a person’s fingerprints and iris scans, and is used by close to 1.34 billion residents for verification in banking and telecom services, along with quicker entry at airports. India’s IT ministry examined the proposal and “is not in favor of mandating the pre-installation of the Aadhaar App on smartphones,” UIDAI said in a statement to Reuters on Friday. The statement added that the ministry had held a “consultation with stakeholders from the electronics industry” before deciding to drop the Aadhaar preloading idea. According to documents reviewed by Reuters, the smartphone companies had been uneasy about device security and compatibility related to the Aadhaar proposal, while also expressing concerns about the higher cost of manufacturing a separate line of devices just for India. The news follows reports from last year that India was introducing biometric authentication to its national domestic payments network, the United Payments Interface (UPI). Under this system, UPI users can approve payments with facial recognition and fingerprints, with authentications will be carried out using biometric data stored on Aadhaar. PYMNTS has catalogued the popularity of biometric authentication in other parts of the globe. For instance, research from the 2025 “Global Digital Shopping Index: UAE Edition” found that 32% of shoppers in the United Arab Emirates had used biometric authentication such as fingerprint or facial recognition technology to complete their most recent online transaction. This number is close to double the global average rate of 18.5% and represents the second-highest level seen across all countries surveyed by PYMNTS Intelligence. “This high rate of adoption underscores a strong consumer preference for convenient yet secure methods of verifying purchases,” PYMNTS wrote last summer. “For financial institutions and payment processors, this signals a clear imperative: supporting and enhancing biometric payment solutions is no longer a niche offering but a mainstream expectation among UAE consumers.” The post India Cancels Plan to Place Biometric App on Smartphones appeared first on PYMNTS.com.
aapl
-7608356999529283605
Linux 7.1 Sound Overhaul Ushers in Apple Silicon Audio Precision and Broad Hardware Fixes
https://www.webpronews.com/linux-7-1-sound-overhaul-ushers-in-apple-silicon-audio-precision-and-broad-hardware-fixes/
["aapl
Linux 7.1 sound updates introduce ASoC bus keepers for Apple Silicon, plus AMD Raphael DMIC, Cirrus Logic codecs, NVIDIA fixes, and USB quirks. Legacy ISA like AMD InterWave revives with suspend/resume. Changes merged April 2026 enhance stability across devices. Linux kernel 7.1 merges sound subsystem updates that bridge gaps in modern hardware support. Bus keepers land in ASoC. They target Apple Silicon laptops first. Developers eye wider use. James Calligero led the charge. His patch series explains the need. “This series introduces some infrastructure to allow platform drivers to specify what a DAI should be doing when it is not active on the bus,” he wrote in a kernel mailing list post. Apple Silicon setups feature six codecs in groups of three. They drive dual opposed woofers and a tweeter for stereo. Codecs report voltage and current across voice coils via SDOUT pins. This data flows as PCM in TDM slots. It pairs with Thiele/Small parameters to shield speakers from damage. Linux’s speakersafetyd mirrors macOS CoreAudio handling. The bus topology demands care. All SDOUT pins feed one SoC I2S receiver port. They split across two data lines, left and right groups. An OR gate sums them. A floating high idle line corrupts transmitting data. Bus keepers ensure idle lines stay low—zero-fill or pull-down. Calligero’s code generalizes this beyond Asahi Linux downstream hacks. Platform drivers now configure DAI idle behavior flexibly. Hardware Enables Stack Up Across Vendors AMD Raphael gains DMIC support. Cirrus Logic adds CS42L43 and CS47L47 codecs. NVIDIA CPCAP and WM8962 setups on specific machines work now. USB quirks fix Huawei Headset, Focusrite Novation, Scarlett 18i20, and more. HD-audio patches tackle Lenovo, HP, Acer, ASUS laptops. Legacy shines too. AMD InterWave ISA driver gets suspend/resume, a rarity since 2005. Cássio Gabriel patched InterWave. His series wires PM helpers around GUS code. “This 3-patch series wires up suspend and resume support for the InterWave ISA drivers and their PnP front-end around the shared GUS PM helpers,” he noted in a patch submission. Cleanups move EXPORT_SYMBOL declarations. These tweaks revive 1990s hardware for Linux tinkerers. And USB audio? PreSonus AudioBox, Moondrop Ju Jiu, Arturia AF16Rig, Hotone Audio, Feaulle Rainbow—all quirked. Studio 1824 and MV-Silicon join. Manufacturers test less. Kernel adapts. Changes merged this week via sound git. Takashi Iwai pulled them into Linus Torvalds’s tree. Phoronix covered the pull on April 19, 2026, noting Apple aims and hardware wins (Phoronix). But why bus keepers matter. Apple Silicon Linux support grows via Asahi project. Audio lags graphics, NPU. This infrastructure paves DAI links for multi-codec beasts. Future drivers plug in. Other vendors might follow—any bus with idle state issues. Quirks dominate pulls often. They fix real-world breakage. Users report pops, no sound, distortion. Kernel devs collect DSDT dumps, lspci. Patches emerge. Linux 7.1 sweeps many. Expect fewer “no audio on boot” forum posts come stable release. Legacy Revival Meets Forward Push InterWave isn’t alone. Legacy ISA drivers dust off. But focus shifts modern. Raphael DMIC feeds PipeWire, JACK flows clean. Cirrus codecs power embedded, laptops. NVIDIA CPCAP? Older Tegra revival maybe. So, broader impact. Audio pros gain stable USB. Laptop users dodge HD-audio bugs. Apple hackers test speakersafetyd sooner. Kernel maintainers trim quirk backlog. Phoronix tracked InterWave revival earlier on April 7 (Phoronix). No fresh LWN.net merge window coverage yet—sound pull predates full 7.1 git. X posts echo Phoronix; no new leaks. Developers watch. Calligero eyes “other hardware” uses. Raphael, Cirrus integrate fast. Linux audio marches. Hardware follows.
aapl
-6405356391298941262
Accidentally ruined your iPhone home screen? iOS 27 will reportedly have a fix for that
https://www.phonearena.com/news/accidentally-ruined-your-iphone-home-screen-ios-27-will-reportedly-have-a-fix-for-that_id179759
["aapl
556170928728438102","-4794171701806922799","8377191164414903797","5295491789556493717","-217807928627311750
A pair of new buttons would make all the difference.
aapl
-619908100583058357
The Best Deals Today: Apple AirTag 4-Pack, 3 for $33 Movie Deal, Sony WH-1000XM5 Headphones, and More
["aapl
-6442336864753565202
A new weekend has arrived, and today, you can save big on Apple AirTags, 4K Movies, AirPods Pro 3, Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2, the limited edition Marathon DualSense, and more. Apple III Showed The Cost Of Silence The contrast is striking because what was a costly engineering failure in 1980 now looks technically and practically achievable since Apple can finally pair passive cooling with far more efficient silicon. In 2022, CNBC revisited the Apple III episode, noting that the machine, released in 1980 for business users, featured expanded keyboard functions and a larger display. Jobs reportedly insisted it have no cooling fan and no vents because he wanted it to run quietly. Engineers tried to compensate with an aluminum case, but the system still overheated, at times hot enough to damage internal chips and even floppy disks. Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak later said the Apple III "had 100 percent hardware failures," and Apple replaced the first 14,000 units ...Full story available on Benzinga.com
aapl
["aapl
Related Stocks: AAPL,
aapl
-6998711865686998011
‘The Savant’: Jessica Chastain Says Apple TV Will Release Series Postponed After Charlie Kirk Killing
https://www.purdueexponent.org/lifestyles/entertainment/the-savant-jessica-chastain-says-apple-tv-will-release-series-postponed-after-charlie-kirk-killing/article_a660d6a9-25f1-5acd-a730-3a2266e56e7a.html
["aapl
1813520160009950282
Apple TV opted to postpone the release of the political thriller series last September following the assassination of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk.
aapl
4740418324541900125
Apple account change alerts abused to send phishing emails
https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/security/apple-account-change-alerts-abused-to-send-phishing-emails/
["aapl
-7326078709059503956
Apple account change notifications are being abused to send fake iPhone purchase phishing scams within legitimate emails sent from Apple's servers, increasing legitimacy and potentially allowing them to bypass spam filters. The iPhone 16 Pro is no longer part of Apple’s official lineup after the launch of the iPhone 17 series in September 2025. However, it remains a strong contender in the market, especially for those looking for premium features at a reduced price. Retailers and third-party sellers continue to drive demand for this flagship device, which boasts a titanium build, ProMotion display, and optical zoom. This breakdown covers its current pricing, trade-in values, and how it compares to the newer iPhone 17 base model. How Much Does the iPhone 16 Pro Cost in 2026? The iPhone 16 Pro’s pricing has dropped significantly since its original launch at $999. As of April 2026, the 128GB model starts at $600 to $800, depending on the retailer and whether it is a new or renewed premium model. Higher storage models, like the 512GB variant, are seeing substantial price cuts and can often be found retailing around $819 on platforms like Amazon. The top-tier 1TB Titanium model, which still appeals to power users, is available for approximately $850-$900. What’s the Trade-In Value of the iPhone 16 Pro? The iPhone 16 Pro continues to hold respectable trade-in value, providing multiple options for users planning to upgrade to the iPhone 17 series. Apple’s Trade-In Program offers up to $550 in direct credit, which can be applied toward newer Apple products. US carriers like Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile are offering trade-in credits between $800 and $1,000 on eligible unlimited plans. Trade-in sites such as Swappa and Gazelle provide cash offers ranging from $450 to $600, depending on the phone’s condition. Carrier promotions deliver the highest trade-in value, especially for customers who plan to upgrade their devices alongside their phone plans. iPhone 16 Pro vs iPhone 17: Which Should You Choose? The iPhone 17 introduces upgraded performance and internal hardware, but the iPhone 16 Pro maintains an edge in hardware materials and photography features. Pricing plays a significant role in this decision, with the iPhone 17 starting at $799 for the base model, while the iPhone 16 Pro can now be found starting at $600 to $800 for the 128GB variant. The iPhone 16 Pro features a durable and premium titanium frame, while the iPhone 17 uses lighter aluminum. The two models differ significantly in their camera systems. The iPhone 16 Pro’s 12MP telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom remains unmatched in the iPhone 17 base model. The iPhone 17 lacks a dedicated telephoto lens and relies solely on 2x optical zoom, making it less ideal for photography enthusiasts. However, the iPhone 17 delivers better overall performance. Its A19 processor and 12GB of RAM outperform the iPhone 16 Pro’s A18 Pro chip and 8GB of RAM. This makes the 17 a solid choice for users focused on future-proofing and getting the most out of their phone in terms of speed and multitasking. But overall, the iPhone 16 Pro will still outperform the base iPhone 17 due to its superior camera system, making it an obviously better deal compared to the iPhone 17. Strong iPhone 17 demand and supply chain strength propelled the gain, lifting market share to 19% behind Huawei. Apple’s iPhone shipments in China jumped 20% in the first quarter of 2026, the strongest gain among major vendors as the overall smartphone market there shrank 4%. Huawei clung to first place with a slim 20% share. Apple grabbed 19%, up from 15% a year earlier. Rivals stumbled hard. Xiaomi shipments plunged 35%. Oppo and Honor dropped 5% and 3%. Only Vivo eked out 2% growth, thanks to Lunar New Year demand. Yahoo Finance called it Apple’s strongest China quarter in years, but warned the real test lies ahead. Rising memory chip prices hammered budget phones. Supply disruptions forced competitors to hike prices on entry-level models. Apple sidestepped the pain. Its premium lineup let the company swallow costs without passing them on. Counterpoint Research noted, ‘Apple is widely viewed as best positioned to navigate the ongoing global memory crunch, supported by its premium product portfolio and strong supply chain management.’ The firm predicts Apple will absorb higher costs internally, gaining share in the near term. Reuters echoed the data on April 17, highlighting how Huawei grew just 2% while Apple soared. iPhone 17 series demand fueled the boom. Standard models kept last year’s prices despite doubled storage. Promotional cuts and government subsidies sweetened the deal. E-commerce discounts pulled in buyers wary of inflation. Chinese consumers see iPhones as value holders amid economic caution. This marks a turnaround. Shipments rose 8% in Q2 2025, first growth since mid-2023. By October 2025, iPhones hit 25% of sales, best since 2022. Q4 2025 saw 28% growth; Apple led outright. Full-year 2025 jumped 26% on iPhone 17 pull. MacRumors tied Q1 success to that streak, adding a 23% sales spike in early 2026’s first nine weeks. But shadows loom. Chinese brands plan price hikes for Q2, squeezing demand further. Apple and Huawei should weather it best, say analysts. Huawei eyes low-end gains. Apple bets on loyalty. Greater China delivered Apple’s record iPhone quarter in fiscal Q1 2026, with 38% revenue growth to $25.5 billion, Tim Cook called ‘the best iPhone quarter in history in Greater China.’ That was calendar Q4 2025. Momentum carried over. CNBC flagged the Q1 shipment surge amid the downturn. Apple’s edge? Supply chain mastery. In-house components buffer shocks. Premium pricing shields margins. Rivals like Xiaomi suffer from prior deep discounts, creating tough comparisons. Cost-conscious buyers flock to trusted brands. Apple climbed to second, nipping at Huawei’s heels. AppleInsider pegged the growth as the biggest since Q4 2020. Geopolitics adds tension. U.S.-China frictions persist. Apple diversifies assembly to India, Vietnam. Yet China remains vital—about 18% of revenue. Shipments hit roughly 13.1 million units in Q1, per estimates. Huawei leads, but Apple’s ascent pressures it. South China Morning Post confirmed Huawei’s hold with Apple close behind on April 18. Analysts cheer. Bank of America lifted its price target. Bulls eye sustained share gains. Memory crunch tests everyone. Apple thrives. Rivals retreat. Q2 outlook? Cautious. But Apple’s run suggests resilience. Huawei fights back. The duel intensifies. China buyers decide.
aapl
["aapl
The iPhone 18 Pro is set to usher in a new chapter in smartphone photography with its innovative variable aperture system. According to a report by Macworld (via MacRumors), Apple is currently testing four distinct shades for its premium smartphones arriving later this year. The biggest surprise is a brand new signature hue that trades last year's bright orange for a much deeper, wine-inspired finish. The dark cherry finish brings a classy wine shade to buyers Apple always introduces a special signature color for its high-end models to help them stand out from the pack. This year, it plans to release a shade officially called Dark Cherry. This unique option acts as a direct replacement for the vibrant Cosmic Orange seen on the previous generation. Instead of a bright, punchy red, Dark Cherry looks much closer to a deep glass of wine. It offers a muted, elegant finish that easily separates the newest phones from older models when you hold them in the light. According to the latest leaks, here are the four specific paint options currently in development: Light Blue (Pantone 2121), resembling the current iPhone 17's Mist Blue Dark Cherry (Pantone 6076), the headline new color Dark Gray (Pantone 426C) Silver (Pantone 427C), similar to the current generation Because the phones are still in the early hardware testing phase, the tech giant could drop any of these options before mass production kicks off. The upcoming folding model sticks to simple silver and indigo finishes Beyond the standard Pro models, new factory leaks also shed light on the highly anticipated foldable iPhone. Rumored to launch under the Ultra name, this expensive new device unfolds to look exactly like a small tablet. Unlike the main lineup, the foldable model will likely skip the wide variety of fun colors. Apple plans to offer it in a classic Silver and a dark Indigo option to keep the overall design looking incredibly simple. Factory drawings show the folding phone measuring just 4.7 millimeters thick when fully opened. It will feature two rear cameras and multiple selfie lenses scattered across its inner and outer screens. Shoppers should expect to see all of these devices officially announced this coming September. A recent consumer survey of 5,000 phone owners across the USA shows that customer loyalty to Apple has hit a new record. The new data reveals that a massive 96.4 percent of current iPhone owners plan to buy another one for their next upgrade. By comparison, Android owners are nearly four times more likely to ditch their current phone brand to try something completely new. Apple holds onto its customers longer than competing phone makers The survey shows a major gap in how long people stay loyal to one specific company. Almost 84 percent of iPhone users say they have kept buying phones from Apple for more than five years. On the Android side, only about 34 percent of users can say the same thing about their chosen brand. Most iPhone fans stay because they simply prefer the operating system and find it incredibly easy to use daily without frustrating software bugs. However, the few Apple users who do leave often blame high hardware prices. About half of the 3.6 percent who plan to switch say the devices cost too much or that other options offer better overall value for the money. A small group also claims rival brands offer better camera technology. Samsung picks up most of the users who decide to switch When shoppers finally decide to leave the Apple ecosystem, most of them head straight to Samsung. The survey notes that nearly 70 percent of iPhone users are looking for a change plan to buy a Galaxy device next. Google is the second most popular choice, catching about 20 percent of those moving away from Apple. Meanwhile, Android users show slightly different shopping habits. While Android brand loyalty sits lower at 86.4 percent, the users who leave are split in many directions. When Android owners switch brands, a large chunk stays on the platform by moving to Samsung. Still, a solid 26.8 percent of those switchers decide to cross over and buy an iPhone instead. Smartphone shoppers are sticking with the Apple iPhone more than ever before. These helpful additions will likely arrive with the iOS 27 update later this year. The newly discovered tools focus on making daily tasks easier across basic built-in applications like the web browser, digital wallet, and camera. Here is a quick look at what it is currently building, which is found in the leaked code. New camera tools will read food labels and save phone numbers Apple is expanding its visual search tool to help track your diet and manage contacts. The software will soon allow the iPhone camera to scan nutrition labels on packaged foods. This feature likely connects to the Health app, making it simple to log calories without typing manually. The camera will also spot phone numbers and addresses on paper. When scanning a business card, the phone will automatically offer to save those details right into your contacts list. The digital wallet turns physical membership cards into digital passes The Wallet app is preparing to add a highly requested convenience feature. Apple plans to let users scan physical items like gym membership cards directly into the phone. Once scanned, the software analyzes the card and creates a digital version to keep in the app. This addition means you will no longer need to carry around a thick physical wallet just to enter your local gym or attend a concert. The web browser automatically organizes and names your open tabs Safari is getting a smart upgrade to help clean up digital clutter. Currently, users group open tabs together and manually type out a name for that folder. With iOS 27, the browser will use artificial intelligence to understand what you are reading. It will then suggest a helpful name for your group based on the content. If you open multiple pages about sports, the software will label the folder accordingly. These upcoming updates show that Apple wants to make everyday phone tasks much faster and easier to handle. We will likely hear the full official details when it reveals iOS 27 at its developer event this June. When Apple announces iOS 27 this June, it will reportedly bring fresh updates to the Liquid Glass design introduced last year. While the core look remains the same, the company plans to fix lingering interface issues and give users much more control over how their screens look. A systemwide slider gives you exact control over screen transparency Right now, Apple gives iPhone owners exactly two choices for the Liquid Glass look: clear or tinted. Clear mode shows off the full transparent effect, while the tinted option makes everything solid. The jump between the two options is massive. According to Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman, Apple originally wanted to offer a smooth systemwide slider. This tool would let users dial in the exact level of transparency they want. Gurman notes that the company tried to build this slider during the development of iOS 26. It managed to get the feature working for the lock screen clock, but ran into technical roadblocks when applying it to app folders and the home screen. If Apple solves those hurdles, this sliding scale will debut in iOS 27. Gradual interface tweaks aim to fix minor layout annoyances Beyond the transparency slider, Apple plans to make smaller adjustments across the entire operating system. The massive visual overhaul last year brought some fresh ideas, but it also created a few usability headaches. Mark Gurman reports that the company is planning minor tweaks rather than another major redesign. He expects years of steady improvements, comparing the situation to the slow refinement phase that happened after the release of iOS 7. These upcoming changes will likely address specific user complaints. For example, the current layout in music apps often shrinks the player, forcing users to tap the screen just to see basic controls. Apple will likely use iOS 27 to clean up these small frustrations and make the interface easier to navigate daily. The next major software update for the iPhone is just around the corner, and early rumors point to some noticeable visual adjustments.
